Here at Churn Chiropractic in Redding, we can diagnose your herniated discs and recommend a treatment program to reduce your symptoms and help your disc heal.

Determining the Causes of Your Bulging Discs

Bulging discs can be caused by a variety of conditions and/or injuries. The most common cause is age-related wear and tear, which is often referred to as disc degeneration. Other causes of herniated discs include sudden injuries, like sports injuries, falls and car accidents, improper lifting or lifting something that is too heavy and repetitive motion injuries. You may also experience a bulging disc if you are overweight or have extremely weak back muscles.  thankfully, chiropractic care can help heal bulging and herniated discs without the need for surgery, regardless of the cause.

Symptoms of a Bulging Disc

Bulging discs cause back pain and a loss of range of motion. If the bulging disc is located in the neck or upper back, you may also experience arm and shoulder pain. If the disc is located in the lower back and compressing the sciatic nerve, it can cause leg pain and muscle weakness.

Treatments for Bulging and Herniated Discs from our Chiropractor

Our chiropractor offers several treatments for bulging and herniated discs that are non-invasive and medication-free. Common treatment options include chiropractic care, decompression therapy, massage and corrective exercises.  Many treatment programs for herniated discs start with decompression therapy and massage. Decompression helps increase the spaces around the discs, which helps them retract and refill with fluid. Massage therapy helps relax the muscles and soft tissues, which can decrease your pain levels.

If you have misaligned vertebrae in addition to your herniated disc, we may recommend manual or instrument adjustments in order to ensure proper spinal alignment. As you progress in your treatment, we may recommend corrective exercises to help strengthen weak muscles so they can adequately support your spine.
